Air Force Achievement Medal Ribbon
Criteria: The Air Force Achievement Medal (AFAM) is a decoration presented to Air Force personnel for exceptional achievements or meritorious service that, while noteworthy, doesn't warrant the Commendation Medal. This distinction is exclusively reserved for junior personnel and is most frequently bestowed upon officers with a pay grade of O-4 and below, as well as enlisted personnel below the rank of E-7. Local commanders hold the authority to confer this award, providing a broader discretion on when and for what actions the medal may be granted.
While the AFAM can be awarded in a combat zone, it is specifically for non-combat meritorious service, positioned as a lower-tier recognition among the U.S. Military's meritorious service medals. This medal serves to acknowledge the valuable contributions of junior officers and enlisted personnel who aren't eligible for the higher Commendation Medal or the Meritorious Service Medal.
