3/16" Double Gold Star Device
Gold Star Devices, also known as award stars, are decoration attachments used by the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard to represent multiple awards of the same decoration. For example, a service member who has earned three Achievement Medals will display the Achievement Medal with two gold award stars on their service record. Award stars serve a similar purpose as oak leaf clusters in the Army and Air Force, marking repeated honors.
Award stars come in two degrees: gold and silver. Silver stars are considered a higher degree and are issued in place of five gold stars. A silver star is awarded for the 6th, 11th, 16th, and subsequent awards of the same decoration. No higher degrees are authorized beyond five silver stars.
Award stars are specifically issued for individual medals awarded for combat or meritorious actions, not for service medals, which are designated with service stars.
