Qualification Guidelines:

The Southwest Asia Service Medal (SWASM) is an accolade conferred by the U.S. Armed Forces to honor military personnel engaged in active duty during Operation Desert Shield or Desert Storm within specified geographical areas throughout the Persian Gulf War. For those on temporary duty, eligibility requires a continuous service of 30 days or a nonconsecutive service of 60 days, unless a waiver is granted for involvement in active combat.

A Bronze Star accompanies each campaign the service member partakes in and is to be affixed to the medal. Each medal is adorned with at least one bronze star.
