Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon
The Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (SAE or SAEM) is a distinction conferred by the United States Air Force to honor Airmen achieving expert proficiency with either the service rifle or pistol. Established in August 1962, it was first granted on January 1st, 1963. Recipients must demonstrate proficiency with the M-16 rifle, M-4 carbine, or their designated duty handgun. If an Airman attains qualification with both a rifle and a pistol, a Bronze Star device is affixed to the service ribbon to indicate an additional accolade.
