Qualification Criteria:

The Navy Expert Pistol Medal remains the foremost recognition that a Sailor can attain for exceptional pistol proficiency. The current designated pistol for qualification is the M9. The medal is exclusively worn by recipients who have reached the distinguished "expert" status with a qualified firearm. Should they achieve expert status, the service ribbon is proudly displayed with a silver E device. A plain ribbon is worn in the case of Marksman qualification, while a bronze S device signifies Sharpshooter qualification. Introduced in 1969, standard qualification assessments involve executing one-handed shots while kneeling and two-handed shots while standing.
