Join or Die

Crafted in 1754, this iteration of Benjamin Franklin's renowned Join, or Die symbol served as a call to unity for the 13 Colonies during the French and Indian Wars. Along the bottom of the print, a concise history unfolds from the symbol's inception to the present day. The accompanying text reads: "In 1754, Benjamin Franklin created the now-famous Join, or Die symbol for his newspaper, the Pennsylvania Gazette. His drawing aimed to encourage the British-ruled 13 colonies to unite against the growing threats from the French and Indians, who had aligned themselves against the British. In an ironic twist 12 years later, Franklin published the symbol again during the American Revolution. This time, it became a rallying cry for the 13 colonies in their quest for freedom and independence from British tyranny. Eighty years later, it resurfaced during the Civil War. For over 250 years, the image has undergone edits, paintings, and resketches, yet its message remains consistent: inspiring Americans of every race, color, and creed to unite in preserving America as 'the land of the free and the home of the brave.' God bless the USA.
