Defense Distinguished Service Mini Medal
The Defense Distinguished Service Medal (DDSM) is awarded to U.S. Armed Forces members serving within the Department of Defense who demonstrate outstanding performance in duties contributing to national security or defense. Established on July 9th, 1970, by President Richard Nixon's Executive Order 11545, the medal is commonly bestowed upon senior officers, including the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Chiefs and Vice Chiefs of the military services, and personnel in regular contact with high-ranking government officials like the Secretary of Defense and Deputy Secretary of Defense.
