Bronze Star Medal Hat/Lapel Pin
The Bronze Star Medal (BSM or BSV) is a prestigious distinction granted to members of the United States Armed Forces in recognition of acts of bravery, merit, or meritorious service. When awarded for acts of heroism in combat, it is accompanied by a V device symbolizing valor. Among the Armed Forces, it holds the distinction of being the fourth highest combat honor.
Originally established in February 1944, this medal was subsequently awarded retrospectively to numerous veterans of World War II. In 1947, a policy was implemented allowing for the retroactive award of the Bronze Star Medal to any serviceman who had received the Combat Infantryman Badge or the Combat Medical Badge. Both of these badges necessitated a recommendation from a commanding officer and were required to be accompanied by a citation. In the Army and Air Force, additional awards of the Bronze Star Medal are denoted by Oak Leaf Clusters, while the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard employ 5/16th inch Gold Stars. Foreign Service Personnel serving alongside the U.S. Armed Forces are also eligible for this distinction.
