Badge Criteria:

General Officers: General officers wear the basic badge upon entering a headquarters staff or command position, unless they are already qualified for a higher-level badge. After 12 months, they are eligible to upgrade to the next higher-level badge, continuing the upgrade every 12 months.

Officers: Officers receive the basic badge after graduating from technical school or upon obtaining a fully qualified Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC). After 7 years in the specialty, they can earn the senior badge, and after 15 years, they are eligible for the master badge.

Enlisted Personnel: Enlisted airmen are awarded the basic badge after completing technical school. Upon achieving the 7-skill level, they earn the senior badge, with the master badge being awarded to those who reach the rank of master sergeant or above, after 5 years in the specialty following the 7-skill level award.
