Army Distinguished Service Cross Mini Medal
The Army Distinguished Service Cross Medal (DSC) is a prestigious U.S. Army decoration awarded for exceptional gallantry and personal risk in combat with an armed enemy force. To earn the DSC, actions must surpass the criteria for other U.S. combat decorations but fall short of the requirements for the Medal of Honor. Equivalent to the Navy Cross (Navy and Marine Corps) and the Air Force Cross (Air Force), the DSC originated and was first awarded during World War I. Additional awards were later granted for pre-World War I actions, often recognizing gallantry preceding formal recognition. It is distinct from the Distinguished Service Medal, which acknowledges meritorious service to the U.S. government rather than individual acts of bravery in combat.
