Armed Forces Service Mini Medal
The Armed Forces Service Medal (AFSM), established on January 11th, 1996, is awarded by the U.S. military for personnel engaged in "significant activity" not eligible for other service or campaign medals. Theater commanders determine "significant activity," often related to high-impact U.S. military operations of international importance. To qualify, a service member must spend at least 30 consecutive days in a specific theater region, with aircrew personnel eligible for the award based on 30 mission days in the area.
