Airmans Medal for Heroism Ribbon

The Airman's Medal for Heroism is awarded to U.S. Air Force members displaying heroism, often at the voluntary risk of life but outside of combat. Saving a life or the success of the heroic act is not mandatory. Established in 1960, it has an Army counterpart, the Soldier's Medal. From 1947 to 1959, Air Force personnel qualified for the Soldier's Medal since a distinct Airman's Medal had not yet been instituted.
