Airman's Mini Anodized Medal

The Airman's Medal for Heroism is awarded to U.S. Air Force personnel who display heroism, often involving a voluntary risk of life but not in combat situations. Saving a life or the successful outcome of the heroic act is not a prerequisite. Established in 1960, the U.S. Army has a counterpart known as the Soldier's Medal, which U.S. Air Force personnel were eligible for between 1947 and 1959, as the Airman's Medal had not yet been established during that period.
