Air Medal Mini Medal

The Air Medal (AM) is awarded to military personnel for meritorious achievements during aerial flight, recognizing both sustained contributions and single acts of merit or heroism. Primarily, it honors individuals in active crew member or non-crew member flying roles who engage in regular and frequent aerial flight as part of their primary duties. However, it may also be granted to others with combat obligations requiring frequent flying or those performing noteworthy acts as crew members, even if not on flying status. Recipients must make a distinct contribution to the operational land combat mission or the mission of the aircraft in flight. Established on May 11, 1942, the AM's eligibility is retroactive to September 8, 1939.
