Air Force Commendation Mini Anodized Medal
The Air Force Commendation Medal (AFCM) is a mid-level award granted for sustained heroism or meritorious service. Local commanders have the authority to interpret the criteria for awarding this medal broadly. For acts of valor in direct contact with an enemy force, a Valor device ("V" device) may be attached to the decoration. The "V" device was authorized in 1996, and prior to that, there was no Valor distinction for the Air Force Commendation Medal. First issued in 1958, additional awards are recognized with oak leaf clusters.
