The Combat Medical Badge (CMB) is awarded to members of the Army Medical Department, ranked Colonel or below, who support infantry or special forces units during active ground combat.

Key Features:

• Award Criteria: Given to medical personnel assigned to combat units during active ground combat, with retroactive eligibility dating back to December 6, 1941.
• History: Created in 1945 and originally a one-time award, now eligible for multiple awards, marked by stars around the decoration.
• Bronze Star Medal: In 1947, soldiers who earned the CMB during WWII were also authorized to receive the Bronze Star Medal due to the similarity in combat duties required for both awards.
