Air Force Achievement Full Size Medal

The Air Force Achievement Medal (AFAM) is conferred upon Air Force personnel for exceptional achievements or meritorious service that doesn't warrant the Commendation medal. Typically awarded to officers with a pay grade of O-4 and below, and enlisted personnel below E-7, it is granted by local commanders, allowing flexibility in determining the actions meriting the medal. While it can be given in a combat zone, it is specifically for non-combat meritorious service, representing a lower-tier meritorious service medal in the U.S. Military. The AFAM recognizes the contributions of junior officers and enlisted personnel ineligible for the higher Commendation or Meritorious Service Medals.
