44th Engineer Battalion Unit Crest (Builders Of Freedom)
Scarlet and white signify the colors of Engineer organizations. The railroad track, a reference to the 47th Engineer Maintenance of Way Battalion, the parent unit, symbolizes one of the Engineers' construction duties and, when positioned "in bend," stands as a military honor. The pale, representing strength, portrays a road, bridge, landing strip, etc., illustrating the fundamental functions of the organization in construction and maintenance. The fleur-de-lis commemorates the organization's World War I service in France, while the palm tree signifies its World War II service in the Pacific area. The scarlet, broken heart serves as an emblem for the organization's contributions in Korea.
