118th Cavalry Regiment Unit Crest (Rough Riders)
This emblem represents the unit crest, or distinctive unit insignia, of the 118th Cavalry Regiment, a part of the Arizona Army National Guard. The unit's motto, "Rough Riders," is inscribed across the bottom. Symbolically, the horseshoe represents the unit's cavalry designation, while the horse and rider pay tribute to Captain O'Neil, who was killed in action in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Additionally, the star and sunset elements are adapted from the flag of Arizona.
