3/16" Triple Gold Star Device

Gold Star Devices, commonly referred to as award stars, are decoration attachments given to U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel to signify multiple awards of the same decoration. For example, if a service member earns three Achievement Medals, their record will show the Achievement Medal with two gold award stars. This system is similar to the oak leaf cluster used by the U.S. Army and Air Force to indicate additional awards.

Award stars are available in two degrees: gold and silver. Silver stars represent the higher degree, in line with U.S. military traditions. A silver award star is issued in place of five gold stars, meaning a silver star is awarded for the 6th, 11th, 16th, and subsequent awards of a decoration. There are no higher degrees of award stars beyond five silver stars.

Award stars are exclusively given for individual medals earned through combat or meritorious actions, and are not issued for service medals, which are instead recognized with service stars.
