General Officers: Upon entering a headquarters staff or command position, general officers wear the basic badge. After 12 months, they progress to the next higher-level badge, continuing to upgrade to the next level annually.

Officers: Officers earn the basic badge after completing technical school or achieving a fully qualified Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC). After 7 years in the missile specialty, they are eligible for the senior badge, and after 15 years of service, they are awarded the master badge.

Enlisted Personnel: Enlisted members receive the basic badge after completing technical school. They earn the senior badge after achieving the 7-skill level and the master badge once they reach the rank of master sergeant or higher, with 5 years of experience following the 7-skill level.
