Southwest Asia Service Full Size Medal

The U.S. Armed Forces award the Southwest Asia Service Medal (SWASM) to military members who served in active duty supporting Operation Desert Shield or Desert Storm during the Persian Gulf War within specified geographical regions. To qualify, those on temporary duty must have served for 30 consecutive days or 60 nonconsecutive days, unless a waiver is granted for active combat participation.
