Combat Action Ribbon

The Combat Action Ribbon (CAR) is a prestigious honor presented to Navy and Marine Corps personnel exhibiting commendable performance under enemy fire during active involvement in ground or surface engagements. Established in February 1969, the award was initially retroactive to March 1, 1961, for qualifying personnel. However, President Bill Clinton expanded the eligibility criteria to December 7, 1941, encompassing all individuals who participated in World War II.

Notably, recipients can signify additional awards of the Combat Action Ribbon by adorning the service ribbon with Gold or Silver 5/16th inch stars.
