Texas A&M Corps of Cadets: Incoming Freshman Guide by Military Depot

Proudly Aggie-Owned and Operated

Welcome to Texas A&M and congratulations on joining the Fightin' Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets! At Military Depot, we’ve supported cadets like you for generations — and as a local, Aggie-run business, we know what it takes to help you succeed. Our mission is to serve incoming cadets and their families with the gear, guidance, and grit needed to start strong.

Why Military Depot?

  • Our team includes former cadets and Corps families — we’ve been there.

  • Our footlockers are cheaper, tougher, and ready for inspection.

  • We offer real guidance — not just products — for your first days in the Corps.

We created this page to give you an easy, honest, and Aggie-powered head start.

FAQ: Corps Housing

Where can I find housing info?
Housing is assigned through the Corps and includes all-male or all-female dorms. For questions, contact Corps Housing.

Can cadets bring furniture?
Minimal extras — a fan, small fridge, and basic bedding. Desks and beds are provided.

Are footlockers required?
Yes — and ours are cheaper and more durable than our competition. Buy local and save.

Can cadets bring a computer/printer?
Yes. Maximum monitor size is 30.75" wide x 21" tall. No 3D printers.

FAQ: Uniforms

When do cadets wear uniforms?
Uniforms are worn daily during the school week and on specific weekend events.

Who cleans them?
Cadets are responsible for uniform maintenance. Laundry rooms are available.

Why do I need a robe?
Hallways are public spaces — robes are standard for modesty.

Can I wear religious items or have tattoos?
Yes, within regulation. Consult your unit commander for clarification.

FAQ: Cadet Life

What is Onboarding?
Freshman Orientation Week (FOW) is your training ground. You’ll learn what’s expected, meet your outfit, and build a foundation of discipline and tradition.

Is there time to study?
Absolutely. Evening Study Time (EST) is enforced Sunday through Thursday. Cadets also have access to Academic Day from 7:30 AM–4:30 PM.

What academic help is available?
Scholastic Performance Specialists, tutoring, study centers, and free resources are provided by the Corps and the university.

Which meal plan is required?
All cadets must purchase a meal plan. Freshmen are required to select the all-access plan.

Is hazing allowed?
No. Texas A&M and the Corps have strict anti-hazing policies. Formal training ensures all cadets understand student rules.

Can cadets have jobs?
It’s not recommended during your first semester. Adjust first, then reassess.

How do cadets carry books?
Black briefcase, backpack, or book bag.

Can freshmen have cars?
Yes, but not necessary. TAMU has a reliable campus-wide bus system. Permits required through TAMU Parking.

Do cadets need a sports pass?
Yes, except Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band members. Info at 12th Man Foundation.

How do cadets get mail?
We recommend renting a PO box during New Student Conference. Visit baurservicesinc.com or call (979) 458-2692.
