Eligibility Requirements:
The Antarctica Service Medal (ASM) is conferred upon military personnel who fulfill duty periods ranging from 15 to 30 days while stationed on the Antarctic continent, defined as south of 60 degrees latitude. Flight crews engaged in transport missions to Antarctica earn one day of service for each flight mission completed within a 24-hour timeframe. Military members undertaking extended winter service in Antarctica are awarded a Wintered Over Device, highlighting the number of winters served on the continent. Established on July 7, 1960, the ASM replaced various commemorative awards issued for Antarctica expeditions conducted between 1928 and 1941.
