The Combat Medical Badge (CMB) is awarded to Army Medical Department personnel, ranked Colonel or below, who provide support to infantry or special forces units during active ground combat.

Key Features:

• Award Criteria: Given to medical personnel assigned to combat units during active ground combat, retroactive to December 6, 1941.
• Multiple Awards: Recipients who earn the CMB multiple times are recognized by stars encircling the badge.
• Bronze Star Medal: In 1947, soldiers with a CMB earned during WWII were eligible for the Bronze Star Medal due to the similar nature of combat duties for both awards.
