The Combat Medical Badge (CMB) is awarded to Army Medical Department personnel, ranked Colonel or below, who provide support to infantry or special forces units during active ground combat.

Key Features:

• Award Criteria: Given to medical personnel assigned to combat units during active ground combat, retroactive to December 6, 1941.
• Multiple Awards: Stars are added to the badge for each subsequent award, reflecting the number of times the CMB is earned.
• Bronze Star Medal: In 1947, soldiers who received the CMB during WWII were also authorized to receive the Bronze Star Medal due to the comparable nature of combat duties required for both awards.
