Air Force Aerial Achievement Medal Ribbon
Criteria:
The Air Force Aerial Achievement Medal Ribbon, established by the U.S. Air Force in 1988, is conferred to recognize the noteworthy contributions of personnel within the aircrew. Distinct from the Air Medal, the AFAAM is granted by the Secretary of the Air Force to U.S. Military members or civilian personnel displaying sustained meritorious achievement during aerial flights within the U.S. Air Force. These accomplishments go beyond the standard expectations of a professional airman and extend to unmanned aerial vehicle operators as well.
Local commanders have the authority to authorize the AFAAM, with mission approval granted by a Major Air Force Command. To qualify for this medal, individuals must complete a minimum of 20 flights, each lasting at least 2 hours, with one flight per theater per day. The basic AFAAM can be earned with 14 flights; however, if this is the case, 26 flights are required for the first Oak Leaf Cluster. Enlisted personnel receive 3 promotion points per award.
