Air Force Distinguished Service Medal Ribbon
The Air Force Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) is awarded to U.S. Air Force members who have demonstrated exceptional meritorious service in significant roles within the U.S. government. Typically reserved for officers holding the rank of at least Major General, it is frequently granted to senior Air Force generals. The DSM was introduced to replace the practice of awarding the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Air Force personnel. Originally known as the Distinguished Service Medal (Air Force) until 1955, it assumed its current name after the Korean War.
